Mr. Cedric Murrell was educated at the Combermere School.  He received his tertiary education in Public Administration at the University of the West Indies (UWI) and also holds a Diploma in Air Navigation Systems Management from the IATA Training Institute.

 

Apart from a brief stint in teaching, Mr. Murrell has from 1972 spent all of his working life as an Air Traffic Controller. He is currently the Chief Air Traffic Control Officer.


 

 

He has been extensively trained, is widely experienced and regarded as an expert in the field.  In 2006 he was elected Executive Vice President for the Americas Region of the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA).  This is considered one of the highest posts in the international organization that governs the affairs of air traffic controllers worldwide.  Mr. Murrell was responsible for the administration of the affairs of the IFATCA in the Americas Region and represented the federation in both regional and international fora.

 

He was elected Vice Chairman of the Air Traffic Services Committee of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) in 2006.

 

Mr. Murrell has been a member of the National Council of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) since 1980; he served as an Executive Member of the union becoming its President from 1992 to 1994 and 1996.

He is presently 1st Vice President.

 

He also served as the President of the Barbados Air Traffic Control Association for sixteen (16) years.

 

He has been actively involved in the credit union movement and was the Chairman of the Supervisory Committee of the Barbados Public Workers Co-operative Credit Union Ltd (BPWCCUL) from 2008 to 2011 having been Secretary from 2003 to 2008. Mr. Murrell was elected a Director of the Credit Union in June 2011.

 

Mr Murrell was a member of the Board of Management of the St. Leonard’s Boys’ School; he is presently Chairman of the Board of Management of the St. George Secondary School.

 

He is also the Vice Chairman of the St. Philip South Constituency Council.

 

Mr. Murrell is a former executive member of the Combermere School Old Scholars Association (CSOSA) and his personal interests include reading, travelling and sightseeing.

 

He was elected as the President of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB) in September 2010 but first served the Coalition as it then was between 1992 and 1994 as Co-Chairman.
