CTUSAB's Youth Committee (PR 24 May 2011)

Coming out of the 8th Biennial Delegates’ Conference of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB), held in September 2010, the issues of recruitment and succession planning were identified as key strategies to be pursued as part of the Congress’ action plan.

CTUSAB considers these as critical to the long term development of the labour movement.

It is therefore imperative that trade unions and staff associations sustain their efforts that are directed at recruiting young persons entering the job market.  From a strategic point of view, the labour movement must remain cognizant that it has a responsibility to address the training and development of its membership.

CTUSAB is adamant that the recruitment and succession planning are vital to sustaining and the repositioning of the trade union movement.

CTUSAB underscores the point that as a key partner in the Social Partnership of Barbados, and mindful of the role it has to play in the sustainable development of Barbados, it must commit to the training of union members, so that it has at its disposal, a cadre of quality leaders, who can serve the labour movement.

In the furtherance of the development of a succession planning strategy, the CTUSAB has accepted to establish a Youth Committee.  The Youth Arm is opened to members of affiliated unions and staff associations who are under the age of thirty-five (35)

The CTUSAB invites all interested persons to attend a meeting to launch the Youth Arm, which is to be held at the Barbados Workers’ Union Headquarters, Solidarity House, Harmony Hall, St. Michael; on Tuesday, 31 May, 2011, 5:00 p.m.

The meeting will be addressed by Dennis De Peiza, General Secretary, CTUSAB.
