BARNUFO - THE ARREST OF BARBADIAN FISHERMEN IN TRINIDAD & TOBAGO

02 December 2011

The recent arrest of ten (10) Barbadian fishermen by the authorities in Trinidad and Tobago, is actively engaging the attention of the Barbados National Union of Fisher folk (BARNUFO).

BARNUFO is currently working with all relevant interest in attempting to bring about a speedy resolution to the matter.  Considering the sensitive nature of this episode, BARNUFO is satisfied with the progress made to date, and looks forward to the release and return of the fishermen.

BARNUFO publicly expresses its thanks to all interests both at home and in Trinidad and Tobago, who are working assiduously in addressing the matter.

BARNUFO has been in contact with the fishermen by telephone, and has assured them that the organization will continue to engage the local authorities, in an effort to assist their cause.

It is the intention of BARNUFO to request a meeting with Barbados’ newly appointed Ambassador to CARICOM, Hon. Robert ‘Bobby’ Morris, to discuss the longstanding matter of the Fishing Agreement between Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago.
