Expression of Sympathy on the passing of Delisle Moore

PRESS STATEMENT

28 February, 2011

The recent workplace accident at the Portvale Sugar Factory which resulted in the death of employee Delisle Moore, reinforces the need for employers to provide a safe place of work, and for employees to discharge their responsibility by following all safety measures and procedures.

The Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados (CTUSAB), urges that both employers and employees play their part in minimizing workplace accidents, which have the potential of resulting in injury, disability or death.

The Congress calls on workplaces to aggressively pursue  the development of a health and safety culture, that is predicated on the instruction, training; the sharing of information and the maintenance of a working environment for employees without risks to health; and that  is adequate as regards to facilities and arrangements for the welfare of workers at work.

CTUSAB regrets the untimely passing of Mr. Delisle Moore, and expresses sympathy to his wife, family, friends and his work colleagues at the Portvale Sugar Factory.
