Tribute to the Passing of Dame Olga Lopes-Seale

PRESS STATEMENT

8 February, 2011

The Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados pays tribute to the life and work of the late Dame Olga Lopes-Seale, who was affectionately known to Barbadians as Auntie Olga.

Dame Olga will long be remembered for the role she played as a humanitarian and philanthropist, as she sought to address the needs of the most vulnerable in communities across Barbados.

The life and work of Dame Olga should not be forgotten, but should serve as a lesson and inspiration to all Barbadians, in driving a return to being a caring society. This can be done by demonstrating a higher level of civic responsibility, which would be a fitting way of identifying with the causes she championed.

As the region celebrates Black History month, let’s herald Dame Olga as a Barbadian icon, who has earned the right to be recognized and saluted during the annual celebrations.

CTUSAB expresses condolences to the family and friends of Dame Olga, and may she long be remembered by the many, whose lives she has touched.
